Throughout the 16 editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), numerous elite batters have emerged as dominant forces on the charts.
A select few elite batters have produced mesmerizing run-scoring streaks that have single-handedly propelled their teams to victory.
Shubman Gill has scored his third century of the IPL 2023 season while playing for GT against MI. He has now accumulated over 800 runs and is currently leading the Orange Cap race.
The IPL 2016 season witnessed Virat Kohli, the former captain of India and Royal Challengers Bangalore, achieving the highest aggregate by any batter in that particular edition. Kohli accumulated 973 runs in 16 matches, including four centuries and seven fifties, while playing for RCB, which finished as the runner-up.
Jos Buttler, the captain of England’s white-ball team, secured the second spot on the list by scoring four centuries for Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2022 season. During the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 season, Shubman Gill, the opener for Gujarat Titans, achieved the milestone of crossing the 800-run mark, making him the fourth overall and second Indian to do so. The individual known as Gill achieved their third century of the Indian Premier League season, joining Kohli as the only other Indian to accomplish three or more centuries in a single IPL season.
A total of 129 runs were scored by Gill in 60 balls, including seven fours and 10 sixes. The individual score achieved by him in an IPL Playoffs match has exceeded Virender Sehwag’s record of 122 for PBKS in 2014.
The ongoing IPL 2023 season has observed the highest number of 200+ totals in comparison to the previous 16 seasons of the league. The run-rates at which teams have scored this year are also the highest among all the preceding seasons.

Virat Kohli (2016): 4 centuries
2016 will always be remembered as the season in which Virat Kohli went ballistic with the bat. The former RCB skipper scored 4 centuries which was then a solo record until it was equalled by Jos Buttler in 2022. Kohli had a great run with the bat, scoring 973 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 152.03 and an average of 81.08. Kohli’s 973 runs are still the most runs scored in a single IPL season.
Jos Buttler (2022): 4 centuries
England’s limited-overs skipper Buttler was in red-hot form in the 2022 IPL season. Buttler almost single-handedly took RR to their second IPL final. Buttler accumulated 4 centuries last season and equalled Kohli’s tally of 2016. In 17 matches, Buttler scored 863 runs at a strike rate of 149.05.

IPL 2008 to 2009:
For the first two seasons, the winner received Rs 4.8 crore in prize money, while the runner-up received Rs 2.4 crore.
IPL 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013:
The winning prize now totals Rs. 10 crore, while the runner-up receives Rs. 5 crore.
IPL 2014 and 2015:
The prize money for the year 2014, 2015 was raised to Rs 15 crore, with the second-place finisher receiving Rs 10 crore.
IPL 2016-2019:
The prize money for the winner and runner-up in 2016 was raised to Rs 20 crore and Rs 11 crore, respectively, and this has remained unchanged until 2019.
