  • If the incoming batter fails to meet this requirement, they will be declared ‘Timed Out.’
  • Rule 40.1.2: In cases of prolonged delays where no batter assumes the crease, the umpires will follow the procedure specified in Law 16.3 (Umpires awarding a match). The action’s commencement will be considered as the expiration of the 3-minute time limit mentioned above.

Rule 40.2: In the event of a ‘Timed Out’ dismissal, the bowler is not credited with the wicket. This rule parallels run-out dismissals where the fielder executing the run-out does not receive credit for the wicket. Instead, the ‘Timed Out’ dismissal attributes the wicket to the incoming batsman’s failure to reach the crease within the stipulated time limit.

In the specific case of Angelo Mathews, he took more than two minutes to assume his batting position due to issues with his helmet. During this delay, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan made an appeal, which the on-field umpire upheld. “We have a wise captain in Rohit Sharma. They should perfect their combo. We need a couple of games to warm up. We should have a pool of at least 20 players from whom to select a squad of 15”

He stated that while the team’s top order is OK, the trouble is in the middle order, particularly at numbers 4th and 5th. He stated:

“The top order is fine, but the middle order requires attention. Slots 4 and 5 are critical. If Rishabh Pant bats fourth for his IPL team, he should bat fourth for the national team as well. The number four batsman cannot be a showy run-scorer. He must be someone who absorb the pressure.”

Yuvraj Singh also stated that India cannot be in an experimental phase when competing in critical games such as the knockout games. When asked who he thought would be the best No.4, Yuvi proposed KL Rahul and also backed Rinku Singh for the position. He stated:

“Rinku Singh was batting brilliantly. I believe he has the foresight to form a partnership and keep the strike. It’s far too early. If you desire him, you must provide him with a sufficient number of matches.”

Could a Saudi Premier League outbid the Indian Premier League? Could it steal the spotlight and stars from the IPL? According to reports, Saudi Arabia is already in talks with the BCCI.

The Saudi government is apparently considering to establish its own IPL-style T20 tournament in order to compete with the BCCI.

According to an Australian media source, Saudi government officials have already taken the first step by meeting with IPL club owners.

“Our goal is to create a sustainable industry for locals and expats living in the Kingdom, and to make Saudi Arabia a global cricketing destination,” Saudi Arabia’s Cricket Federation chairman, Prince Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud, was reported by Arab News last month.

The meeting’s specifics have yet to be revealed. According to the source, there is a chance that Indian players would be allowed to compete in the forthcoming league. However, the BCCI’s rules prohibit Indian players from competing in any T20 league other than the IPL. To play in any other league, a player must be fully cut off from the BCCI.

In terms of investment, the owners of IPL teams also hold franchises in other leagues. Notably, the franchises in Cricket South Africa’s SA20 are entirely owned by people who own a club in the IPL, indicating that the Indian cricketing body’s rules do not prohibit teams from investing in other leagues.

As a result, it is vital to mention that Saudi Arabia would require the BCCI’s support to allow players to participate; otherwise, it would not be as popular as the IPL in India.
